BEIJING, Sept 6 (Reuters) - China's retail car sales in August jumped 59.3 percent from a year earlier to 977,300 units, the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATRC) said, a surprise bounce after sluggish sales in the summer.

Total vehicle sales in August -- including cars, buses and trucks -- rose 55.7 percent from a year earlier to 1.22 million units, helped largely by Beijing subsidies for fuel-efficient models.

The following table captures Chinese retail passenger car and vehicle sales in August and year-to-date. (percent changes are from a year earlier): ---------------------------------------------------------------
